Our snowy Mt. Hakodate experience
HAKODATE, February 2023. the initial goal was to experience walking on snow, what is it like to be jaunting in a chilly place where temperature drops to less than 10 degrees below zero. And hopefully, if possible, our next big goal is getting to the top of a freezing mountain that's Mt. Hakodate.
True enough with the old outdoor mantra we've known since the beginning: "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing."
Equipped wth our layering clothes, on a snowy afternoon in Suehirocho Hakodate, Island of Hokkaido, we battled the seemingly sleeting environment tramping from its bayside, climbing the stairs of Hachiman-zaka Slopes until Motomachi. Strong winds welcomed us as we braved thje eastern slopes to get to the ropeway Hakodate's mountain summit.
We aimed to get to the top of Mt. Hakodate late in the afternoon since we wish to confirm it's claim that glittering warm lighting effects during dusk consciously adds charm to the whole frosty white area.
Too bad, we have not seen the glittering lights since it was snowing by the time we get to the top and visibility wa low to nothing.
At the summit, with just few bravados around, though very briefly, we get to enjoy the place and took some memorable shots for our snowy Mt. Hakodate recollection.
